About Wing World: 34 Years and Growing

More than 35 years ago, a handful of young Honda Gold Wing enthusiasts gathered around a Phoenix restaurant table for the first meeting of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). Back then, of course, no one foresaw their small organization’s membership would one day grown into the tens of thousands—currently numbering over 70,000 Members worldwide. Neither could they anticipate that one day their Association would produce a monthly magazine that would provide a highly targeted market for its advertisers.

GWRRA LogoThe small, but fast-growing, organization known as GWRRA decided shortly after its start-up to put together a brief typewritten/mimeographed newsletter, called “Wing News” to keep its Members informed. However, little did they know then that, throughout the decades, it would develop into an industry-respected, full-color glossy known as Wing World.

With a steadily growing circulation exceeding 41,000 copies directly mailed each month to our Members, an average 110-page issue of Wing World blends advertising messages with top-quality touring stories and color photos, editorials, technical information and human-interest features. Because many GWRRA households contain two or more “Wing Nuts”, the pass-along value of each copy of Wing World increases each issue’s sales value geometrically. A recent survey revealed most Wing World copies reach at least three additional readers.

The demographics of our membership are unique in that not only are our Members motorcyclists, a full 88% ride Honda-brand motorcycles. They are generally long-distance/touring motorcyclists who ride an average of at least 100-plus miles per day, mostly on the weekend and mostly on two wheels, though trikes are gaining in popularity. Over 70% of our Members are married and they ride mostly two-up. Most of our Members are between 55-69 years old, have many years of motorcycling experience, are committed to safe riding practices, appreciate the wearing of helmets and protective gear and depend on Wing World for Gold Wing-specific product information to enhance their touring lifestyle. Most say they read their monthly Wing World magazine cover to cover, more than half say they share it with someone else, and 100 percent say they have purchased from Wing World advertisers.
